Syria is but a Dream is a collaborative book making project I undertook in 2016 with 4 refugee families from Syria who were living in Jordan and Lebanon. I worked with each family to create a small photo album. The albums are a collaboration with the families, containing my own images and those they gave me; they then added captions to each photo by hand as we made albums together. Each book reflects on the family's current situation, what life was like back in home, and what they hope for the future. Shown here are scans of the family albums; the physical copies were left with the families to keep. Underneath the scans are translations of their writing. Captions have been edited for clarity. This work was made in collaboration with VSCO as part of a larger project about the Middle Eastern refugee crisis. All of those projects can be found here.
